Outlander was the first adult series I have watched and being a bit wary of entering this genre, I wasn't sure what to expect or how to feel about it for a while. There was much more sexual and violent content than expected but for the most part it makes the show more realistic, although I'll admit I didn't enjoy this aspect of the show and felt it was too much for me to feel comfortable watching - I had to skip a lot of parts. Being a huge fan of the book series, I decided to watch the show. Usually I detest shows/movies made from books, or vice verse, however in this case, I am really enjoying the show. It doesn't follow the books much, but I'm enjoying the show on its own merits. I love Cait and Sam together. They have a connection that brings the story to life.

This is a great show. I will admit it can be slow at parts and takes a while to get going (the first two episodes are mainly just setting up the storyline, so don't listen to the reviewer who only watched the first two episodes and didn't enjoy it) but if you have any interest in history at all this show is FAR from boring.

The concept of traveling back in time on accident and stuff is potentially a 7-9 star show... but this? this is trash, the most boring thing in the world. I watched the first 2 episodes hoping the 2nd one would pick up since the idea of the show seemed possibly interesting but it did so no one bit. This is the slowest show in the world. So I saw some adverts for this show and was intrigued. "What's this?" I thought. Another powerful show about strong females like Xena (1995)? A whimsical show about magic like Merlin (2008 BBC)? A show about morals and life lessons like Legend of the Seeker (2008)? Nope it's just a smutty romance novel adaptation.This show is about a witless women who is thrown back in time to drool over 'hunks' of another era. Wow, how backwards have we become? All the elements made me assume it was some sort of intelligent show about women's rights and such. Magic, fish out of water, etc.It seems the ONLY reason this show was made was to cash in on the popularity of these kinds of stories. It's an amalgamation of several things. Game of Thrones (fighting/accents/gratuitous nudity), Dr. Who (time travel/sci fi), Harry Potter (magic, based on a series of books with a following, blood wars, witches). BUT the PROBLEM is that all of these genres are just a BACKDROP. Like how they make porn parodies of movies/TV shows. There is no value just smut and vulgarity. I'm not sure why you would watch this show, I mean if I wanted porn, well this is the internet it's filled with it! But I don't want porn, I want a TV show.I could barely get through the 1st episode. I mean it's a bit unfair to judge a show this way. AT LEAST watch the 2nd ep since the 1st is just there to set things up, but no. The 1st ep needs to make you want to see more and I certainly did not. Granted the premise is a bit convoluted, but I just don't want to watch a woman basically drool over 2 guys in different time periods. What's worse is that she is married! Morals slipping indeed. Sad that TV shows are getting worse instead of better.This is smut and nothing else, except boring really. The WHOLE time this woman narrates. It's just so boring. I could care less about her thoughts "We could always re-connect through sex." WOW I mean WOW, what can I even say? Smut at it's purest. I'm sure there is fan-fiction online less smutty than this show! I mean enough! Can we have shows with actual meaning again? Boy Meets World, Sabrina the Teenage Witch, Xena, The Fresh Prince of Bel Air, Family Matters, Buffy, Charmed, The Nanny, That 70's Show, Dharma and Greg, Full House, Step by Step, Will and Grace, Home Improvement, The Drew Carey Show....I mean yes some of these shows got a bit sexual but mostly it was about life lessons.This WHOLE show is just smut. Excuses to hook this woman up with these men. It's so transparent. But if this is what you like, then this is the show for you.....

You could try to classify it as a fantasy TV series but those are usually very different than this TV series.I am very open to various scenarios in sci-fi and fantasy TV series but here the story is so ridiculous, not to mention completely implausible.Again, the story is ridiculous. Why? Episode 1 shows a woman who touches a rock and she is then transported back in time!! And then we have to accept this kind of story as plausible and keep watching! If it was full-blown fantasy, then we could accept more easily this story but it is very plausible and then they put this rock trick to move to the past! In a fantasy TV series, you know right away that you have to suspend your thinking but here it seems so real and then they use this rock trick to move back in time.Then, there is the issue of using the Celtic language without even putting subtitles. Whatever the reason for doing that is simply plain wrong (supposedly because the main English character does not understand Celtic).It seems that the good votes come from women who fantasize about Scottish men or Scotland!! Here are mostly TV series and a few movies that I highly recommend, as I watched them and enjoyed them a lot.--------------------------------------------------------There are a few classics in science-fiction TV series:---Smallville---Star Trek: Enterprise---Babylon 5---Earth: Final Conflict---Battlestar Galactica---Star Wars (6 movies so far and counting)---Jupiter Ascending (a movie)all deserving 15 out of 10 because they are all very special TV series for the quality of their stories and for the amazing actors that they have. Are these TV series perfect? No, as they sometimes have "filler" episodes that are not too great and they also sometimes have "holes", illogical elements in the main story or in the individual stories of particular episodes. Despite sometimes the presence of these very few shortcomings, these TV series are really unique and special in many ways that you will nevertheless enjoy them greatly.Other TV series that are excellent but not necessarily science-fiction? I've recently been reading (actually listening to the audio-books) the Outlander series of books having completed 5 so far so when I saw the Starz TV series was coming out I just had to watch it. I must say I loved the Outlander books, but I'm not a fanatic when it comes to translating books to the screen they are very different mediums and thus can take on a different look and feel and that's OK with me. In this case, I don't think people who are would be disappointed anyway as the screen writers did an excellent job of translating the 1st part of the book to the screen (I've only seen the 1st episode but I'm already hooked so I'm sure I'll enjoy the rest). I loved their choice of actors to take on the roles of Jamie, Claire, Frank and Dugan. Sam Heughan is perfect as Jamie Fraser (just the right bit of good looks and ruggedness one might expect in Jamie). Caitriona Balfe also seemed like a good choice for Claire (beautiful yet strong enough to carry the role). I think Frank/Jack Randall's portrayal by Tobias Menzies will also fit my vision of Frank/Jack and I think he can carry off both roles one as the wicked Jack and the other as the loving yet dull Frank (when compared to Jamie). And the Scottish actors like Graham McTavish (Dougal) will bring old Scotland to life on the screen for me. From the 1st episode I think they producers will not be shy to include the more sexual aspects of the Outlander books, as they do have this erotic element that actually makes the love between Claire and Jamie the driving force of their relationship which allows it to span centuries, even when they are no longer together. It's that love/passion for each other that keeps them alive in each other's heart and so far to the directors credit, they have not been shy about adding it. I'm looking forward to the Claire Jamie love scenes hopefully to come... I'm also going to enjoy the Scottish history and scenery, and loved the way they so far have included it in the TV series. It's going to be very interesting to me especially as my ancestors are Scottish.I know Starz will be increasing its revenues with this series' fans all signing up just to see it. There must be millions of us around the world that love these books and I'm sure like me many of them will order the cable channel just to watch this. I'm very happy to see Starz did such a good job in bringing this to life on the screen. So rarely do we get a good adult drama on TV these days, and this will surely be that. I'm liking many of the original show Starz is offering this season like this and Black Sails, Strikback. Who ever is heading their creative development deserves a lot of credit for their selection of shows to produce. I think Starz is catching up to HBO and Showtime in it's original shows and might even surpass them if it keeps producing shows of this quality plus they have a much better selection of movies that the other channels. As a new Starz member, I'd recommend it to others.
